The Somervell County Sheriff's Office operates this county jail in Glen Rose. It handles local booking and short-term custody. Glen Rose Police arrests can enter the jail because the sheriff operates the jail and countywide dispatch, but that arrangement does not make the police department a separate long-term detention facility.

Somervell County Jail Record Retention
Texas Local Schedule PS makes the core county jail register permanent. At minimum, it preserves identity and intake data, the reason for confinement, and the release or transfer date. Booking-in and booking-out, commitment, transport, transfer, and release-authorizing documents have a minimum retention period of release or transfer plus two years. Somervell County Jail Modifications Project
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards planning report dated February 3, 2026 lists project 596, “Somervell County Jail Modifications,” as under construction. The report identifies the project as current facility context. It does not say that release hours, exit locations, records access, or processing rules changed.
No operational consequence should be inferred from the project listing. Confirm current access and release arrangements directly with the sheriff. Somervell County separately identifies a Historic Jail on Vernon Street, but that building is not an active detention facility or a released-person lookup source.
Trace Somervell County Jail Transfers
When the jail record says transfer, follow the destination rather than treating the event as release. TDCJ's online search is appropriate after state corrections accepts a sentenced prisoner. A move to another county belongs in that sheriff's system. The BOP locator applies after federal commitment, while the ICE detainee locator addresses covered current immigration custody.
“Not in BOP custody” has a narrow meaning. It does not rule out state, local, immigration, military, or other custody. An ICE no-result also does not prove release because intake lag, spelling, transfer, removal, protected records, and other systems can explain it. The destination notation and the receiving agency's dated record form the strongest chain.
The same rule applies to medical movement and warrants. A person may leave the jail building while legal detention continues, or another county may take custody on an outstanding warrant. Ask for the authority, receiving agency, and time of transfer. Then obtain the next agency's intake or release event. This chain distinguishes a true community release from a change in physical location.
