Somervell IVSS Release Coverage
Texas replaced county VINE with Texas IVSS-Counties on September 1, 2025. It can report booking, release, transfer-to-TDCJ, escape, death, and court events when a participating agency supplies them. Somervell has historical SAVNS support and the Johnson/Somervell District Attorney links the new portal, but a live search remains the correct test for a specific booking.
The county portal and TDCJ's state-prison victim service are related but separate. County IVSS may cover a Somervell jail event. TDCJ handles state-prison custody and parole notices. Neither system is a federal locator, and neither replaces the underlying sheriff or TDCJ release record.
Check One Somervell Inmate
Search one person at a time. Compare more than a name whenever the portal supplies an identifier. A same-name result from another agency does not establish a Somervell booking.

- Enter the exact name and any available identifier.
- Compare the custody agency, case, and person details.
- Open the matching record and note the status and event time.
- Save the event, then request the source record when the release basis matters.
A no-result may reflect spelling, delay, transfer, protection, retention, or nonparticipation. It does not prove release or continued confinement. Use the full Somervell released-inmate search when the portal does not resolve the question.
Somervell IVSS Release Fields
An IVSS result is an agency-fed status notice, not a certified disposition. “Released” means the reporting agency sent that event at the shown time. It may not distinguish bond, time served, dismissal, or pickup on another hold. A transfer event is not release to the community.

The screen is a starting point for a person-specific check, not a rolling county release list.
Register Somervell Release Alerts
Current registration uses the contact and account verification shown by IVSS-Counties. The Attorney General describes call, text, email, and blackout preferences. It does not list the former four-digit telephone PIN as the present workflow.
- Select registration on the matching record.
- Create or verify the requested contact information.
- Choose call, text, email, and timing preferences.
- Save and confirm the record appears in the account.
- Keep contact details current and review notification history.
Notifications are useful, but they are not a sole safety plan. Phones fail, feeds lag, and custody can change again after an alert. IVSS help is available at 866-268-8959.
Confirm Somervell IVSS Results
For a county release, ask the Somervell County Sheriff's Office for the booking-out record, actual release or transfer time, authority, and destination. The sheriff says it has no electronic viewing capability for requesters, so the written open-records route is the durable fallback. Call 254-897-2242 for current routing.
A TDCJ transfer belongs in the state offender system. A federal commitment belongs in the BOP locator. ICE uses its own detainee locator. Keep the reporting agency attached to every conclusion.
Somervell Legacy PIN Warning
Legacy Texas VINE telephone instructions asked users to create a four-digit PIN and enter it to acknowledge automated release calls. Those calls could retry when unanswered. That history explains many old web directions, but it should not be used as the current IVSS-Counties registration method.
Follow the prompts shown by the current portal. DOJ Victim Notification System credentials are also different. Eligible federal victims may receive a Victim ID and PIN, but those credentials have nothing to do with Somervell county custody alerts.
Somervell Release Event Follow-Up
Save the source agency, timestamp, status, and identifier from the alert. Match them to a sheriff record and the correct court cause. The County Clerk handles misdemeanor matters, while the District Clerk maintains district criminal files. A court disposition can explain why release was ordered, though the sheriff's timestamp is stronger evidence of when jail processing ended.
If the notice says transfer, continue in the named receiving system. If it says released but another hold is suspected, ask for the destination and release authority. That short follow-up prevents an alert from being stretched beyond what the agency actually reported.
Somervell IVSS Search Failures
A portal miss has several possible causes. The participating agency may not have supplied the booking yet. A name may differ from the form entered, a record may use an agency identifier, or protected information may not appear publicly. The person also may have moved to another custody system. No current IVSS-Counties retention period was found in the official material, so old claims that a released record remains searchable for a fixed number of days should not be repeated.
Try the full legal name, a known booking or case identifier, and alternate spelling supported by an official record. Then contact IVSS support and the Somervell County Sheriff's Office. Ask the sheriff for a dated jail-register entry rather than a verbal guess based on a current screen. Texas retention rules keep the core jail register permanently, including the release or transfer date, even though the county does not provide electronic viewing to requesters.
Keep the scope narrow. The sheriff record covers Somervell County Jail. A TDCJ result covers state-prison custody, while BOP and ICE operate separate federal systems. If the jail record says the person transferred, follow the named destination before describing the person as released. That custody chain is more reliable than treating one missing portal result as the end of the search.
Somervell Alert Systems Compared
Choosing the correct notification system depends on who holds the person. Texas IVSS-Counties is the county path for a participating Somervell jail record. TDCJ Victim Services handles eligible state-prison notifications, including some parole eligibility, board decision, prison release, discharge, warrant, and return-to-custody events. Federal custody divides again. The Bureau of Prisons locator uses a name or federal register, DCDC, FBI, or INS number. A past release date with no facility can document departure from BOP custody, but it does not rule out federal supervision or another agency's custody. ICE maintains a different detainee locator. The United States Marshals Service has no public national detainee or release locator. Eligible federal crime victims may use DOJ's Victim Notification System, which is distinct from both Texas IVSS services.

A narrow written request gives an IVSS event lasting context. Identify the person's full name, date of birth or booking number when known, and an approximate booking or release range. Ask for the county jail register entry, booking-in and booking-out record, release authorization, actual release or transfer date and time, disposition or authority, and destination if transferred. Request a cost estimate before optional material expands the search.
Somervell accepts written sheriff requests during normal business hours by mail or in person at 750 E. Gibbs Boulevard, Glen Rose, Texas 76043. Mail may also use P.O. Box 3268. The official page lists fax 254-897-9414 and the county open-records page routes law-enforcement email to law@co.somervell.tx.us. The county publishes no special guaranteed response format, so ask for existing electronic records if available without demanding that staff create a new report.
